Although it has not been possible to identify the exact house of the "last Moorish King", Aben Aboo, the so called Casa Grande de la Plaza Vieja has been restored and dedicated to his memory. What does remain, fairly untouched by history, is the cortijada (hamlet) of Montenegro, which was property of his family. Also in the surrounding area is El Salto del Gitano (the Gipsy's leap), with a water-source and stone ovens to prepare country meals.

The Church of San Miguel was built in the mid 1700s, to a rectangular plan with a façade decorated with semi-circular arcs and two sides of Arab roofing tiles. Originally constructed towards 1539, it was a temple of three sections with a separate main chapel. The Moors sacked and burnt this so, in 1582, it's rebuild started using chestnut tree wood.

Fiestas:
  • Carnival (Mid February). This is common to just about every town and village. Basically a communal fancy-dress party.
  • Festival of San Miguel (28th to 30th September). In honor of San Miguel (St. Michael the Archangel) and the Virgin of the Remedies
  • San Juan (23rd or 24th June). Another Fiesta common to most towns of the area - even the whole country - with obvious links to ancient customs and superstitions surrounding midsummer. San Juan is believed to arrive at midnight and bless everything on earth: fields, crops, rivers and fountains. It is typically celebrated with bonfires, water, fireworks, dancing and sardines.
  • Chestnut Festival (The first weekend at the beginning of the month of November or sometimes the last weekend in October). Originating from a pagan ritual, celebrating the harvest, its present form dates from 1886. The evening is spent roasting chestnuts, singing and dancing. Some of the oldest chestnut trees in the Alpujarras are found in this town - some dating back to Moorish times. Chestnuts are an important part of the local cuisine, forming a major part of some dishes.
